*Had* to learn more about it.

(What an unusual life form.)

Not gonna read it. Not to be snarky, but Nuzzi is a Boojum to me.

[She] had softly and suddenly vanished away—
For the Snark was a Boojum, you see.

I learned this weekend that my favourite burrito place in Belfast (and the reason for at least 2 trips there) has opened a branch on Bold Street in Liverpool, and I might just be the happiest human being on the planet.

Finally too shelf mexican back in the city after the tragic loss of Lucha Libre

Not my Snark, not my Boojum.

Re-reading my favorite fantasy poem for the zillionth time to again absorb its primal lesson:

The Snark was a Boojum.

I'll give you that. Trump would hate to be snarked. But I think his snark of a law suit may well turn out to be a boojum.

That photo is in the archives of the Musée Cantini in Marseilles. The curators won't confirm that the photo depicts Lorena Liddell, and they even won't confirm that Dodgson took the photo.

An unreasonable amount of research was invested into creating this slide in my lecture (boojum as in a surface point defect in a liquid crystal, short answer: something from a poem by Lewis Carroll, sort of similar genesis than the term quarks which is from Gullivers Travels)

Under @VictorianOpera AD Stuart Maunder’s lively direction of Martin & Peter Wesley-Smith’s Boojum!, the cast’s enthusiasm carry the evening, even when the path through Lewis Carroll’s bizarre wonderland grows a little muddled. My thoughts at #ArtsReview: artsreview.com.au/boojum/

Martin and Peter Wesley-Smith’s Boojum!, based on Lewis Carroll’s The Hunting of the Snark, comes with a lot of confusion in this new @VictorianOpera production But the nonsense shines through in its lengthy libretto while the music is always melodious and entertaining.

"But if ever I meet with a Boojum, that day,
In a moment (of this I am sure),
I shall softly and suddenly vanish away—
And the notion I cannot endure!"

I just mean common enough that a person visiting could have easily come across them. I'm scanning slides taken long ago by a colleague, which look like they're from the Tucson area, or in some cases around Phoenix, but they have a boojum tree mixed with saguaro and some other things in a few.
November 6, 2025 at 12:52 AM
Obscure question related to trying to interpret some slides I'm scanning: Are there a lot of Fouqueria columnaris (cirio, boojum tree) planted in, say, botanical gardens or as landscaping around Tucson or the Phoenix area?

The Boojum, as the spell is known, is completely agnostic to any other factor, such as political leanings or religions, just and only effective self-worth of a penny over a billion dollars. No matter how many phantom holding companies or shells are used to hide the money, when that state is […]

@theguardian.com, here you had been praised for snark.
Snark is fine, unless it's a Boojum.

The Guardian missed already two important 150th Snark anniversaries (bsky.app/profile/snar...). How will you celebrate the third one in spring 2026? Or did you "cancel" any Carroll stuff?
November 1, 2025 at 1:14 PM
Nice.

“Snarking” was used already 8 years before Lewis Carroll started to write “The Hunting of the Snark” (snrk.de/page_etymolo...). Like your Snark, the Carroll’s Snark is not evil, but if it turns into a Boojum…

How will the Cassady Lewis Carroll Collection at USC Libraries celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of "The Hunting of the Snark" in 2026?

There are three important 150th anniversaries of “The Hunting of the Snark”. @panmacmillan.bsky.social already missed two of them.
