2/2 The 15th Century Blythburgh font, with pedestals for priest (behind stem) godmother and server. It's also one of the seven sacrament fonts, but its panels have been entirely erased, damaged at the Reformation and then tidied up, perhaps in the late 17th Century.

'Baptism' on the seven sacrament font at Great Glemham, Suffolk. The priest behind the font reads from a book held by a server. The godparents are on the left, she holds the baby. Both godmother and server stand on pedestals, three of which which survive beside the font at nearby Blythburgh.

Flabbergasted and pleasantly surprised to say the Poetry Foundation has chosen my essay as one of two nominees for the Best of the Net. My essay about a rarely recorded queer Suffolk being seen in this big a way is really touching. What a distance my Blythburgh doorstep has travelled!

A nice mythology/beer crossover tonight with this Black Shuck Stout from Brid’s Cross Brewery. The inspiration is given as the black dog church attack in Blythburgh, although I am inclined to agree with Christopher Reeve in Paranormal Suffolk that the storm church attacks were un-shuck like…

Lovely walk from Blythburgh to Walberswick. Not much on the flowers but met a fly and a louse on two different fungi in the woods, a beetle along the path on the common and a snail in the reed beds. #WildWebsWednesday #nature

I know the rumour mill is in overdrive. Casting doubt on my observation. Hate on my plate. Shame on my name etc. But I actually did have a skien of 23 Egyptian Geese owa this eve.

Well, you don’t see this very often, do you? A strange and terrible wonder, up at Blythburgh Church this afternoon.

Swallows that nest in the hide at Blythburgh fledged at weekend. They are unquestionably beautiful - but they have shat absolutely everywhere.
