We are flying into Charlotte, NC during a thunderstorm. Part of the wing is showing. All around are thunderheads popping up, with one directly over us which casts a dark shadow underneath. Flying through a thunderstorm. A large dark cloud is directly out the window with rain under the dark belly of the cloud. There is a tiny bit of a prism (rainbow) on the cloud.

The Memaloose hike in December takes you through a grove of naked gray-trunked oak trees, each one showcasing so much personality with their numerous craggy limbs. The narrow rusty brown dirt trail winds through low-lying grasses of gold, rust and green underneath the trees. And above the trees is an overcast sky with a blue tint to it.

The discarded head part of a caterpillar after molting or pupating is called the head capsule or face cap. It's the hard, outer part of the head that a caterpillar sheds when it molts to grow larger. The face cap looks like a small, sometimes dark mask or helmet that is shed with the rest of the skin and is typically eaten by the caterpillar for nutrients. It is the "face" from the previous growth stage, and a new face emerges underneath before it is discarded. Caterpillars go through this process multiple times as they grow. This particular face cap was discarded during pupation.

You are standing underneath an arch in a darker part, looking at 6! other arches in the room in front of you in bright natural light. Everywhere ornamentation and embroidery. It is a shame they have time limits and so many visitors..
