Serious NULL BITMAP heads know my love for the Query Plan Diagram. This is a 2D-rendering that represents the selection of plans for a particular shape of...

Cool thing is that while I’m handwriting this side project in node/typescript, this is the same format Godot uses for bitmap fonts — and indeed the same default font I use for Ember Hearts!

(I haven’t forgotten about Ember Hearts, just having a tough couple years and tryna get back into things!!)

I look at #Commodore64 "The Sentinel", published in 1986 by Firebird, created by Geoffrey Crammond (of course). The game uses an interesting "not bitmap" mode to render, with multiple charset based scrolling, and what looks like a lot of maths and ray casting.

As a controller sicko, a book on video game controllers is 100% something I would have preordered day one from Bitmap Books.

Unfortunately, the entire ordeal with their JRPG book really turned me off from wanting to give them any money.

Found in my closet: an early print out of the JRPG book from almost exactly six years ago, which was used to pitch it. This is an early design that mimicked the CRPG Book before it was picked up by Bitmap Books and redesigned. The capsule pages (the action-RPGs here) were ultimately not included.

Two books on gaming peripherals/controllers in quick succession - from Lost in Cult and Bitmap Books.

Made me look back on pitches I sent between 2020 and 2024 on this exact thing, to always be told: photography budget would be too high, there's not enough audience interest, it's way too niche. 🤷‍♂️

Oh yah I forgot to inform you all that the project I was working on was furring @bitmap-proto.bsky.social head. He bought the base and I paint, furred and added final details to it. I think it turned out pretty good!

Today I've mostly been fiddling with pixelly bitmap fonts for Forbidden Solitaire's tooltips and tutorials. Will post images when the final graphics are in.

Puzzling and Bobbling in 8 Commodore bits. 🫧

The C64 received a lovely little port of arcade Puzzle Bobble in 2022 from JHB. So cute <3

No alt text since I get Java errors about rendering the bitmap when I add alt text for some reason :(

You may find it useful to look into vector art packages such as Inkscape or Affinity; these can export as SVG or bitmap. Spiral drawing is a default tool in Inkscape.

These get loaded directly by the game, and the 3D level geometry is generated programatically from the bitmap. #GameDev #IndieDev #IndieGameDev #IndieGame #Programming #Graphics

C'est plutôt bien fait, mais finalement j'aurais préféré que les options vectorielles et bitmap soient dans le même logiciel quitte à alourdir un peu l'interface

Hmm, this isn't a good look for Bitmap Books after their recent 'issues'.
