Happy anniversary, Michael. Our friendship means the world to me, and I take great pleasure in following you here on Bluesky, and for encouraging me to join as well. Thank you for always being an ally to me and other women umpires - there's some exciting news on the horizon! Hugs, my friend.

I love the feeling of having said "I told you so" without saying it
The stadium for the Kansas City Current -- whose construction 40 banks refused to finance because there had never been a professional stadium built for a women's team -- just finished its second consecutive season of sold-out games.

Book news! Coming spring 2027, ANDY AND THE TRI-CORNERED BASEBALL GAME is my first historical fiction, inspired by a real game that brought the Dodgers, Yankees, and Giants together for one game in 1944 as part of a war bond drive.

This is *super* exciting. I play on a mixed-gender adult team, and when I ran a local non-profit teen travel program, I had the privilege of fielding the first all-girls team in the history of the league.

Hoping DC is in the 1st round of expansion!

It makes me sad that Philly isn’t one of the inaugural teams 😢 especially with Mo’ne Davis. But looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Kudos to Alan Porter and crew. There is absolutely no reason why MLB can’t demonstrate awareness by giving umps 5 minutes, bottle of water, etc. after every 60-90 minutes. Manfraud can get sponsors for the breaks #humanity #WomenInSports #WomenUmpires #BaseballForAll #UmpiresRule #GirlsWithGame

You'd think an umpire this close has an advantage in calling a play accurately, Michael, but the opposite is true. It sounds counter-intuitive, but the farther away from a play an umpire is, the better he or she can see the big picture as well as the small details. ("Farther" within reason.)

Rang out the summer of 2025 by playing catch at the Yogi Berra Museum in NJ with my partner Roberta Newman and 1178 other catch pairs, all of us joining in to set a world record for the biggest game of catch ever played in one place at one time. And guess what?

WE DID IT!!! and it was a blast❤️⚾

Steve and Alex Cohen, using their wealth & generosity for the highest purpose: making the world a better place for all through IWBC’s good works, and our promise to preserve, protect, and promote the history of girls and women in baseball. The future too, which the new @wpbl.bsky.social has lit up!

The first major league manager to encourage me when I was hired to umpire some Mets intrasquads during spring training in St. Petersburg in 1985.

Every umpire needs and deserves validation, and Dave Johnson gave it to me for no reason other than that he was a good guy. Safe travels to him.
Davey Johnson has died at age 82. He was a 4-time All-Star second basemen who hit 43 home runs in 1973 - 1 of 3 Braves players to reach the 40 HR mark that year. He also won 1,372 games as a manager, won the 1986 World Series with the Mets & was a 2X manager of the year.

He was the classic "happy on the outside but lonely on the inside" guy. I didn't see it the day he drove to New York to meet me from his home in Endicott, a long way from the city, where he lived with his mother and cared for her even after she stopped recognizing him.

Looking forward to Jim's bio
Ron Luciano called MLB umpires stuffed shirts. "They feel that they are supposed to be seen and not heard — like a good little kid," he said. "But I was never a good little kid.” Learn more in my bio Big Loosh, from @univnebpress.bsky.social. (Susquehanna Magazine, Binghamton Press, Jan. 11, 1981)

One of the world's best international umpires, Sophiyah Liu, will be representing all us women umps who toil away in obscurity, not for gelt or glory, but for the pure love of the game when she's honored at PNC Park in Pittsburgh by the Pirates on September 3rd. I'll be right there cheering her on!
