« Le roman a-t-il été détrôné par l’auto fiction ? »

🧐Hummm… Le roman n’était-il pas déjà parfois une auto fiction déguisée 🥸 ?

Le roman a-t-il été détrôné par l'autofiction ?
Alors que s'achève la rentrée littéraire, l'autofiction semble avoir une fois encore le vent en poupe ! De "mauvais genre", l'ont pourtant qualifiée certains. Comment expliquer son succès stupéfiant ?...

As with The Clinic episode, I've drawn on elements of autofiction in Rock Fishing. I was born in England, my parents separated, and I fell in the water twice while fishing as a boy. ~ One: Rock Fishing 🎧 #writing #blogging #podcasting #storytelling
Tall And True Short Reads - The Nine Lives of Leo Roberts - One: Rock Fishing
Episode 103 (20 July 2025): Uncle Bernie parked behind the rock fishing beach. Nursing a bucket in the back, Leo had vomited several times.

'Sean wishes he could succeed like his peers and live the life of a William Burroughs or Samuel Beckett, with their “small” inheritances; but instead he finds himself working long shifts.'

One of the more formally inventive entries in the autofiction canon, this 2023 release from @fencebooks.bsky.social challenged and delighted me. If you like reading oddball fiction about the art world, this is for you.

Or I should say history WAS the autofiction of the victors, before the democratization of the word and the camera! Yay internet.

"Blending autofiction with fantasy, meta with magic, and earnestness with absurdity, 𝘛𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘢 presents a recognizable but also magical world where we ask, if nothing is real, then why not have as much fun as possible?"

I've written 3 and a 1/2 books this year.

One is a contemporary paranormal dark comedy

Second is an autofiction about home care

Third is a contemporary cozy woman's novel

The 1/2 novel is a grounded romantasy.

I am tired.

BUT I WANT TO WRITE MORE STORIES

As a writer or not, this is amazing and what I needed now. I want to get deeper and have autofiction novel ideas, but shorter works will help me get going. Either way, this is truely a masterclass.
By the end of the year I will be getting @deepdive.audio auto fiction course. However I’ve been feeling like I need to learn how to write about some of my moments and experiences with humor like David Sedarís, so doing this first. Now I just have to write.

I can’t wait for this. Nina’s most recent novel combines documentary, imagination and autofiction. Her use of complex, reflexive structure is hypnotic.

Because this really annoys me, I went and checked. I've read 60 books over the last three years that could be classified as contemporary literary fic. Of those, only four could roughly be categorized as this and two of those are explicitly engaging with the concept of autofiction as a genre.
What I hear when you claim that most contemporary literary fiction is about English professors/writers with relationship issues is that you don't actually read that much.

In his haunting autofiction ‚I deliver parcels in Beijing‘, Hu Anyan exposes the grim reality of China’s platform economy: 12-hour shifts, one parcel every four minutes, no breaks, no mercy. More than a novel, it’s a systemic nightmare told from the inside.
