I'm still jet-lagged from South America so getting on a plane was the last thing I wanted to do, but...once I arrived, it was good to be in Melbourne at the AusPSA conference and catch up with old friends.

And today I had the pleasure of presenting in front of living Australian legend Antony Green!

I enjoy conferencing. Especially because it feels like my people and nice to make good of my 20% research allocation :) #AusPSA

My PhD researcher with the best photo already of the 2024 AusPSA conference.
It really looks like a warm welcome, UWA! The AusPSA Conference kicks off tomorrow with the PhD Day, in beautiful Perth

📸 Some highlights from this year’s AusPSA Conference in Melbourne - a great few days of panels, conversations, and reconnecting with colleagues across the discipline.

🙏 A huge thank you to the organising committee and the @unimelb.bsky.social for an excellent program and hosting us so warmly.

Depends on your objectives, but if you're trying to decide on a set of solid/good journals, I'd probably exclude everything below an 'A' on the AusPSA list.

Occasionally I present actual research at real life conferences #AusPSA2023

Thanks to @sophieyates.bsky.social for the pic

And, after that, I think I'll take a break from AusPSA conferences for a few years. This will be my 12th in a row! Enough already.

(but most of all, I'm looking forward to spending a day in Fremantle, which is such a beautiful corner of this continent).

I'm looking forward to going to Perth next week for the AusPSA conference.

I'll be presenting papers on Thursday about our 6-country party youth wings project (at 11.00) & about my Future Fellowship research (at 1.30) on nationalist populist international links.

Finally making my Professional Bluesky account. Hoping I don't end up in an algorithm hell that made opening the other site's account just an exercise in misery.
I'm in Perth for AUSPSA! It's like, my 8th APSA on the trot! Good to be in Perth again too!

Also coming very soon (i.e. in 4 hours), I'll be speaking on this AusPSA panel on populism, with a star cast of @ammassarisofia.bsky.social, Rachel Busbridge, @benmoffitt.bsky.social (and me).

If I can somehow manage to have a nap before then, I'll be the happiest person in Melbourne.

At the AusPSA conference last week in Perth, University of Western Australia's campus had peacocks.

We have koalas, goannas, possums...and pythons.
Just a normal afternoon walk at Griffith's Nathan campus.

It was a pleasure to present two papers today at the AusPSA conference: this morning on our 6-country party youth wing survey and this afternoon on my ARC Future Fellowship 'transnational populism' project.

Much more to come from both!

Our excellent PhD, @fravittonetto.bsky.social, presenting tomorrow afternoon at the AusPSA conference.
Tomorrow, at the APSA Conference, I’ll talk about my research on transnational populist publics.

My paper examines the contribution of digital publics on YouTube in building the bridges between PRR parties in France, Italy, and the US.

Outgoing AusPSA president Rob Manwaring deliberately and explicitly trolling me on our panel by finishing with a slide of dejected Manchester United fans....

1995, also my first AusPSA conference (as I sought refuge from Japanese studies…); two papers, one published. 😊

Good luck with the clear out and move, discovered many interesting artefacts livening here and there.

Mornin' folks!

At 11.00 at the AusPSA Perth conference, I'll be presenting a paper about our Youth Wing Membership Survey (YOUMEM) project.

We surveyed 12 youth wings in 6 countries. I'll go through some of our main findings regarding who members are, when they join & why they do so.

Join us!

The AusPSA conference in Perth is going well.

Yesterday I was named leading Political Science researcher in the country by The Australian's Research Magazine.

This morning there's a 'revise & resubmit' in the inbox.

The sun is shining & this beach is just a bus ride away.
