Turkish entomologist Ayla Kalkandelen would have been 86 years old today. She specialized in the study of Auchenorrhyncha, and particularly in the "leafhoppers" or Cicadellidae which can act as vectors for plant disease.

Exciting to get back in the lab, to demonstrate how to extract adaeguses to aid Auchenorrhyncha ID.

This one is 𝘋𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘢, a common grassland species.

La taxonomía está liada, Hemiptera engloba a todos, homoptera prácticamente no se usa, Heteroptera engloba a los chinches, los Auchenorrhyncha, dividida en Cicadomorpha y Fulgoromorpha (cigarritas y cigarras) Sternorrhyncha (pulgones y cochinillas), pero aún no está bien aclarada la clasificación.

Parapiromis translucida, que l'on trouve régulièrement dans nos jardins à Nouméa. Espèce autochtone de Nouvelle-Calédonie et Vanuatu.
Insecta > HEMIPTERA (cigales, punaises...)> Auchenorrhyncha > Ricaniidae > Parapiromis
Vue frontale rapprochée de Parapiromis translucida, un petit insecte planthopper de la famille des Ricaniidae, posé sur une feuille verte. L’insecte expose ses ailes antérieures largement déployées, finement nervurées et ornées de motifs orange, rouges et bleuâtres translucides. Son corps jaune-brun, compact et légèrement bombé, contraste avec la texture délicate et colorée des ailes. Les détails de la tête, des yeux et des pattes sont nets, capturant l’étonnante symétrie et la beauté de cet insecte originaire du Pacifique Sud.

Nog een foto van Borneo - echt een bijzonder, en bijzonder klein, beest, was deze cicade (Auchenorrhyncha), behorend tot de Fulgoroidea. Dat vuurwerk uit zijn "kont" zijn wasdraden waarlangs de honingdauw kan wegdruppelen, maar die natuurlijk ook dienen als afweer/afleiding. #ElkeDagEenInsect
