An Aurora in Orion! With the Pleiades in the upper right and Sirius lower left. An amazing storm!

8000 years ago, a supernova exploded and left a so-called supernova remnant - the large Veil Nebula in constellation Cygnus.

Good evening Bluesky! Dark skies here in Vermont this evening, and a cold wind to bring in another storm (or at least some pressure changes). The moon lights up the sky tonight, which will likely mask any Aurora visibility.

So full and beautiful, hovering there effortlessly in the cold November air. Glorious!

Well, professionally I bounce lasers off things, but besides the obvious astrophoto stuff, we get to see the zodiacal light, meteor showers, and once had a lenticular cloud form about 100 meters over my head

Waxing gibbous moon this evening. 90% full. The air is crisp and cold with some passing gusts from this weekend’s cold front. Autumn in full swing.

After the big storm had come and gone, autumn is fully here. Hello, beautiful moon!

My favourite region on the #moon, Mare Imbrum, with adjacent craters Sinus Iridum, Plato and Copernicus.

In this moon phase, special tectonic features, so-called wrinkles are visible on the floor of Mare Imbrum, inter alia Dorsum Heim and Dorsum Zirkel

When imaging the constellation #Orion long enough, the faint "Barnard's Loop" becomes visible, an emission region measuring some 300 light years across.

Panasonic S5, 22mm focal length, 1 hour stack (800 x 5 sec, as I had no tracking available), ISO 800, Crete.

Perhaps you’re growing a bit tired of my moon shots. That’s ok. 😆

But for the rest of us, here’s celebrating another beautifully crisp October evening in southern Vermont, with the waxing moon to carry us through calm heavens into a soft autumn night.

Another crisp autumn evening here in Vermont, with a delicate crescent moon lazing softly into the west.

I just made this video for my astro-for-non-physicist course on the solar system, to illustrate celestial motion. The separate clips are all winners/honorable mentions of the @astro4edu.bsky.social astrophoto contest 2022. So nice to have this material! 🧪🔭🎢

C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)
This comet was discovered in January 2025 by the Mount Lemmon Survey. It's a bright comet, visible through binoculars! It'll be back around and be visible from earth again in the year 3175, so make sure to mark your calendars 😂
