All the workstations and laptops I use are just rock solid too. I iron out whatever I want like once and it just works forever in a very clean way. I’ve got the common config such that you would never rly need to know it was NixOS with nix-ld, flatpak, appimage-run.

There's an (experimental) appimage version. You can find the links in their most recent changelog: www.rootapp.com/changelogs/o...

This is a great video, very informative. I thank you for it and for all the work you folks are doing. My question is, do we think AppImage is the best distributing format for Linux?

did turtle wow end up abandoning the appimage? shit never works and is just a white screen. a flatpak would be ideal imo. especially for steam deck users.

Even then, there are plenty of FOSS you can compile or manually install/get working/install a Flatpak/pull an AppImage for without being beholden to any fancy package manager. I credit FreeBSD for making me remember that, and it applies to... well, any OS, now that I really think about it.

I tend to choose packages from the distro repos, or Flatpak.
If it's not there Homebrew.
Or if it's an Arch distro, AUR
I have used one Appimage or two, but I'm afraid I'll forget to upgrade them, so I usually avoid this format.
I'd rather compile from source, and lick a frog, than use Snap.
