#AntConc
Ive been using AntConc to do some analysis of debates in knowledge, power, learning, user access with 30 sources, a few are books. Using an app like this really provokes a lot of good thinking about the different ways of analysing text, and what the outputs look like. Maybe students should use […]

#Webinar

Attending the Corpus Linguistics & Applied Linguistics Research 2025 webinar, with a presentation by Laurence Anthony (you know, the creator of hashtag#AntConc 😎) on the use of AI in corpus linguistics. Dangerous takeover or productive partnership?

What a marvelous plenary by Laurence Anthony — a true celebration of past, present, and future in trusting the text. Can’t wait to put the new local #OpenWeighs-powered AntConc through its paces! #cl2025 #trustthetext

Unbelievably, this week (June 19) marks the 10th birthday of my @proghist.bsky.social tutorial, Corpus Analysis with AntConc. 10 whole years!! I cannot believe how far and wide this little publication has travelled and been cited programminghistorian.org/en/lessons/c...
Corpus Analysis with Antconc
Corpus analysis is a form of text analysis which allows you to make comparisons between textual objects at a large scale (so-called 'distant reading').

This looks like an interesting training event for postgrads and doctoral researchers in literary studies: stylometry and keystroke logging analysis using R and AntConc.

But I've performed hundreds of #terminology extractions to build glossaries using AntConc, an old SDL tool, MultiTerm Extract and memoQ, and I must say that all of these in trained hands are far better at building good glossaries than any AI I have tested so far. And w/ no environmental damage.

Mas se até o orientador tá passando raiva com o Antconc, quem sou eu pra não passar
2 horas de orientação e meu cérebro tá derretendo

This is unacceptable. Every program should be named like AntConc and have a cute little ant on the icon

I typically use AntConc, although I'm trying to learn other ways of doing corpus analysis. I usually start my analyses by playing around with the data to get an overall picture of them: what is happening, what is possible, how are specific words used.

Is this in response to the AntConc thread? Somehow I can’t see the previous tweet. In any case, the AntConc AI use is not my approach but @lanthony.bsky.social‘s ☺️

A bit late, but I’m currently in Erlangen, Germany, enjoying the first day of a @rc21project.bsky.social symposium. It was a great honor to open the event with a talk on AI integration with concordance methods, focusing on new #AntConc functions.

In the very first talk at our #RC21symposium, Laurence Anthony shows us how to put AI into AntConc. @rc21project.bsky.social

Also the new AntConc corpus manager interface loos great! :) @lanthony.bsky.social
only issue being that I’ll have to update the screenshots in my handouts for teaching again 🫣😅

I gave my DH students an assignment with three parts: use genAI to perform some basic form of text analysis (like n-grams) and compare to Voyant or Antconc; use genAI to transcribe a handwritten letter; play an online game made with genAI based on a history monograph (game made by author)+

The research methodology is derived from Berber-Sardinha (2007) among others. First, I downloaded transcripts from both the Bundestag (Germany) and the Câmara dos Deputados (Brazil) and changed the format from pdf to txt. The txt files could be examined with AntConc, a free software.
Regarding issue polarization, the issue of immigration in Germany and corruption in Brazil can lead both to affective and partisan polarization. So I decide to compare metaphors in discourses about these main topics to see if there are any differences between parties and countries.
Political polarization can be divided into issue polarization (strongly agreeing or disagreeing on a topic), affective polarization (the division between ingroup and outgroup), and partisan polarization, which is also used as a synonym for political polarization.

1️⃣ check Laurence's abstract on AI-enhanced concordancing

2️⃣ register for the #RC21 Symposium to hear his talk

3️⃣ still undecided? Check his blog post from our ICAME Workshop: go.fau.de/1bf--

You need a concordancer. AntConc is a good, old-fashioned, free software doing exactly this.

I don't exactly have quantitative conclusions yet, and I'm not sure I'm ultimately going to try for them.
Research Assistant used a program called AntConc?

Hi everyone. Here's an event that I'll be presenting at in March 2025. I'll be talking about "AI-Assisted Concordancing: From Search Support to Pattern Profiling" where I'll demonstrate AI models runnning locally in #AntConc (no OpenAI account needed).
