Another week has come and go, and I was able to finish the layout and proofreading for the ANDERS RPG core rule book. I have already started on some inserts for a GM screen (see image), and will now try to find an illustrator for the remaining illustrations. Wish me luck!

I'm hard at work with a final round of proofreading, in order to get ANDERS on the (virtual) shelves before Christmas! 😊
If everything works out as expected, the PDF version of the ANDERS core rule book should be available on DriveThruRPG sometime next week!

A quick update before the weekend:
I just finished proofreading (and fixing the layout) of the 14-page chapter "Tasks of a Game Master or Mistress". That's 23 of 28 chapters done... with about 120 more pages to go! 🙂

I'm still waiting for some quotes from some of the artist, but in the meantime, I have already finished the "Weapons Table" illustration for ANDERS' core rule book myself, and am now working on the "Armour and Shields" one in the same style.

The screenshot shows the different types of medieval weapons used in ANDERS, with little numbers besides them to make it easier to find the corresponding description. All weapons are drawn in a more technical, pseudo-3D way (with colours, shadows, reflections, and lighting).

I had a blast doing my 3 introductory sessions for ANDERS at hal-con.com! People playing it especially liked the combat and the magic system - one of them even said "I really like it, it is much better than the one from D&D — it's more authentic." (about the combat system).

I've finished the layout and proofreading of Appendix #1 and 2/3 of Appendix #2. As an example of a monster description, here is a "Magical Homunculus" from the "Monsters" appendix.

A page from Appendix #2 (Monsters). It shows the stats and description of a Magical Homunculus. It starts like this: Homunculus, magical Tiny magical construct, size category 1, level 6 A magical homunculus is a tiny construct which looks like a tiny human with four insect-like wings. They are created by channeling magic into the physical world and then manifesting this magic into a mostly magical being. Similar to their alchemical counterpart, they are typically used as a tool to help with some simple tasks, or as spies and messengers. A magical homunculus is normally loyal to their creator, but can often be somewhat mischievous in its behavior. Because of their magical nature and appearance, they can be easily confused with smaller fairies.

I've finished another illustration for ANDERS, which shows some armour and shields.
This means that I now have all illustrations I need to publish the core rules, the only thing left to do is another round of proofreading (I'm using CC/PD images for all other illustrations).

The illustration shows in its first row 5 different armour types (from left to right): a yellow/blue gambeson, a longer chain mail shirt, a leather breast plate with leather tassets, a simple brigandine with similar tassets, and finally a metal breast plate. The second row shows 5 different colourful decorated shields (from left to right): a buckler, a round shield, a kite shield, a scutum, and a large pavise.

We intend to publish the inserts (of course with some great images for the front side of the GM screen) on DriveThruRPG as well (as a PDF, print-on-demand, and together with their customizable GM screen).

I started to get quotes from different artists, and since I'm on a tight budget, it looks like the core rule book's art style is going to be a bit more simple.
Additionally, I decided to create some of the more "technical" illustrations myself, like e.g. these weapons.

I was able to proofread and layout the chapters "Session Zero and Running the Game", "Adventures and Campaigns", "Locations, Maps, NPC, Animals, and Monsters", "The World of ANDERS" (see the map), and "Pantheon of Deities (Core)".
I have started to work on the appendixes.

A coloured map showing the "Kingdom of Areath" with its 9 duchies. It is located in the south-west of the continent, where the "Sea of Aroath" (in the East) and the "Southern Sea" (yep, it is in the South) meet. To the West, the map is darkened out, only stating "Terra Incognita", since humans have not yet begun to explore and settle those parts of the continent.
