Divine light? (I of II)

Some windows have photogenic windows and Mouse thinks that #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset is one of those churches. North of nave #WindowsOnWednesday #FromInsideOut

Rood stair and a fabulous monolithic chamfered square (headed) slit light for illumination. A truly tiny window for #TinyWindowTuesday #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset

East of #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset

Interesting chest tomb (well, interesting to Mouse at least) with decoration of large quatrefoils, sadly slowly decaying #TombTuesday

Rather fine and intact #ChurchPiscina, probably also in-situ in the south wall of the south aisle. Lovely chamfered #Ogee head and recessed cusped trefoil with matching ogee vertical lobe. As pukka as a pie

Sometimes you have to cheat a little. A rather lovely gate festooned in roses #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset. Then move the lens to the right a little and you've got yourself a #StandAloneCone on guard duty #Thursgate #IronworkThursday

This type of lean-to for the rood stair seems to be quite a common feature of smaller churches in this area. They're great survivors considering the roods themselves were lost almost 500 years ago. The Perpy window comes gratis #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset #TraceryTuesday

And as #FontsMeanFarewell, what of the church of #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset? This church give Mouse the feels. It's architecturally interesting and a light and spiritual place. It's a full on 4/5 #MusVisit 🐭🐭🐭🐭

Nave #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset for #Woodensday

Worth taking the Mouse eye view of this delightfully understated and visually very appealing roof

South aisle #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset for #Woodensday

You'll be thinking C15 and you'd be right give or take a few repairs and a lick of paint. Panel (or framed) roof with beams supported by angel corbels. Fine moulded ribs and bosses gilded. Mouse partial to duck egg

'The Reredos and Radiator'. Not just a pub frequented by Christian plumbers but also the way the aesthetics of some churches developed. Mouse get the feeling something might have gone missing at some point #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset #StonemasonryMonday

West of tower #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset for #AdoorableThursday

Sort of cyma moulded segmental pointed doorway with keeled ovolo label and blank stops. Plank door with moulded fillets once studded and so old most of the studs have lost their heads

A bit of a Mouse favourite, these tall elegantly carved aisle arches with clustered shaft piers and responds, a recurring theme in many Perpendicular north Somerset churches: South aisle to nave #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset #StonemasonryMonday

Detail of C19 reredos #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset #StonemasonryMonday

Rather finely carved although with a slight sense of upmarket patisserie

The deeply photogenic porch of #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset. Just begging us to pop in for a poke. Late C14 loveliness with diagonal buttresses and ornate (although modern) cross finial
July 5, 2025 at 3:55 PM
This fine font has received a certain amount of tinkerage over time not least of which the very modern cross on each face. The core though is C12 #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset #FontsOnFriday

The church of #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset seems perfectly proportioned to Mouse. Mentally erase the Victorian north chapel (left) and you have a church perfect in it's miniature Perpiness. Three identical nave windows are simple and just the right scale #TraceryTuesday

Welcome to the Church of All Saints in Kingston Seymour, Somerset. A rather charming church built late C14 and early C15 (with the obvious C19 renovations) #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset

A section of the 4-bay arcade to the south aisle #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset. A return to the tall slender arches found in the churches of the River Axe that allow light to flood throughout the church #StonemasonryMonday

From the ground it's hard to tell if this is splayed coping or a form of mansard. The impact of the two rows of piercing and thick pinnacles with croqueted tops is undeniable however. Lower row; #Ogee, upper; pointed. Both cusped #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset #TowerTuesday

A more authentic medieval standing cross in the churchyard of #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset for #StandingCrossSunday. The seven stepped base and octagonal paneled plinth are (probably) contemporaneous with the church. The shaft and head, erhem... a little newer

Chancel #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset for #Woodensday

Arch brace collar beam roof in two bays with ornate openwork above collars

Perpy window set between buttresses which extend to pilaster strips surmounted by carved corbels and then to croqueted finials. The parapet is pierced with trefoils set in alternating upward and downward pointing chevrons #AllSaintsKingstonSeymour #Somerset #TraceryTuesday
