This derelict shop on Dundas Street is (was?) owned by the owner of the (in)famous Aghtamar Lake Van Monastery in Exile restaurant that was next to the railway bridge at Abbeyhill. My wife is from Abbeyhill but we never sampled its supposedly unique experience.

Ziyaretçisi olmayan bir mezartaşı gibi
Hep tenha oldum nasibimi bilirim
Bütün replikler yanlış şifrelenmiştir
Yüzümün çizgilerinde durur rivayet
Her gün yeniden çarmuha gerilirim“

Aghtamar island on Lake Van used to have an independent bishopic seat (Catholicosate) from 1116 to 1895. In 1915, during the Armenian Genocide, its monks were massacred. In 1951 the church was about to be demolished by authorities, but an intervention from Turkish writers and journalists saved it.
