What could possibly go wrong more aggregation of influence and power in one place to cause perversions of democracy are beyond what we have now
Data Centers pop out everywhere. Thousands of projects in the US alone. There is a significant resistance already and now BlackRock enters the stage. What could go wrong?
Data Centers Devour Electricity. Private Equity Is Buying Utilities to Cash In.
The seizure of public utilities for the sake of profit may lead to a disaster for consumers — and the planet.

Personal Data Sovereignty — anonymisation and aggregation is not enough. Today's news emphasises that big computation and data mean we need to look further than standard ideas of privacy.

Personal data sovereignty -- anonymisation and aggregation is not enough
Data that has been anonymised and aggregated it is often regarded as safe and outside privacy laws, but as todays news shows this is not the case, it can still violate personal data sovereignty.

That's definitely a bad rendering (i don't know where it is from). It looks like a pretty sane DNA binding protein from the (quite a few) protein structures out there. I wouldn't take Wikipedia's choice of protein structure as the best choice (UniProt a far better aggregation point)

To do it properly without duplicating data in my own tables, I’d have to add a cron job to compute the sums and manage how long those results should live. So next time you build an API, please include built-in aggregation

I had never thought of this as a problem, but it’s a good point. And it’s compounded by an aggregation problem that the series do everything in their power to make worse because this problem turns other racing series into competition. This is why I see it as “our job” to put the pieces together.

My own intuition on dropping features is that this just creates a pool with many more independent weak learners, on which aggregation depends. Every tree overfits this way, but less trees overfit on the same features.
Boosting and Bagging are both things that "made sense" once I learnt them. But I don't have a clear intuition for how randomly dropping predictors and aggregating produces a strong learner.
Any insights appreciated!
