How is magic meant to be experienced as a two color format if that was true mono colored cards wouldn't exist the same way vanilla creatures died unless brought out for spectacle like in aetherdrift

One of the things that sets Aetherdrift apart from the worst of MKM/OTJ in my mind is how much new stuff was crafted with care for it. The concept is absurd, but the detail is fine. Appropriately, Mad Max: Fury Road is another great example of this

It’s such a weird place for the game right now because I’d argue they’re releasing some of their absolute best in-Universe sets over the past few years (EoE, Bloomburrow, Dragonstorm, Neon Dynasty), but also some duds (Thunder Junction, Aetherdrift, etc).
Maaaaaaan, I’d sure love to do anonymous reporting with Wizards of the Coast staff/designers about the over saturation of Universes Beyond sets.

It’s such a weird place for the game right now because I’d argue they’re releasing some of their absolute best in-Universe sets over the past few years (EoE, Bloomburrow, Dragonstorm, Neon Dynasty), but also some duds (Thunder Junction, Aetherdrift, etc).
And at the same time many UB sets have been fantastic over that same period (Final Fantasy, Lord of the Rings.) But, it’s the balance that’s off, and if any on the in-Universe sets nestled between UB releases end up more like Thunder Junction or Aetherdrift, that’s a HUGE momentum stall.

Climactic? This "story" has been so fragmented and broken up by sets that weren't relevant (Bloomburrow, Edge) and UB that it's never felt like there was a coherant narrative. The Dragonstorm thing came out of nowhere. Aetherdrift should have been 3 sets, and there's no follow up on the winners.

I couldn't even tell you the last time someone brought up sets like Tarkir: Dragonstorm, Duskmourn, or Bloomburrow. I sure can for the likes of Aetherdrift and Murders at Karlov Manor, though.
