I’ve talked a lot about the various books that had an impact on me in childhood. Here’s one from my (early) adulthood: ANIMAL, VEGETABLE, MIRACLE by Barbara Kingsolver. I’ve spent years of my life pursuing a more just and sustainable food system and it’s not an exaggeration to say this book is Why.

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Truly so many, but I have to go with the Westmark trilogy by Lloyd Alexander. Picked it up during a summer reading program in middle school & the way the story & characters have lingered with me even into adulthood. Also made me rethink what fantasy could be

I was already an insufferable smartass as a teenager but I read Catch-22 when I was like 18 and there are a lot of books I could answer this question with but I genuinely think that book shaped so much of who I am as a person, who I would grow up to be. Reading it on the cusp of adulthood changed me

I had long grown out of my christian faith by adulthood, but reading "The Sparrow" felt so therapeutic to finally read something that said "wow, as people of faith how DO you face the cruelties of the world that God clearly had something to do with?" and mysterious ways is not a welcome answer.

I heard about this from antivax weirdo coworkers back in 2012, it was exhausting then, and it's exhausting now. I hope their kids survive to adulthood and escape this insanity.

It took me embarrassingly long into adulthood to realize the purpose of bubble bath is not just that a mountain of foam is awesome, but it also forms a layer of insulation that keeps the bathwater warmer for longer

As my adulthood came, this movie never left me. It's like a time capsule--still there. The emotions can grab me like they were yesterday. As for my life...one day, I was "cool" but it sucked. Then I found my now wife and we had kids. That, my friends... is cool.

This movie is a 10000/10 forever. ❤️

In getting sad about not having a crazy club scene high sex life in my 20’s’s girl experience I think I’m processing finally how not having friends for my formative adulthood is fucking me up

My entire adulthood lol
You ever randomly remember something [trivial] you did, and realize, “Wow that person probably didn’t like that I did that, huh?”

In adulthood, Alice has become controversial for her outrageous drug-fueled antics on stage. One fan recalls when Alice, while high, threw her iconic sweater off to show everyone how far she's come with "becoming a chick". She danced around, then pissed on the audience and passed out.

Peter Pan syndrome is endemic in white western culture.
They hate women bc we drag them into adulthood --
i.e., out of genital play into social productivity.
Unless we stop bothering to drag them into anything. If I were a young woman these days, I don’t know if I would bother with men at all. So many seem to despise women. I would just pass.

There is nothing to fix, existence is to be experienced, I finally stopped putting pressure on myself.

my youth didn't prep me that my adulthood was about mitigating risk in my download folder of backing it up & organizing memes & documents.

there were so many PSAs about avoiding amputations on TV when I was a child that I genuinely did not think Canadian children were expected to make it to adulthood with all four limbs intact

I fear I cannot age myself with a video game I did not play a game until adulthood lol and even then it was Pokemon. Like… closest would be neopets if you count it?

My parents had a weird “video games are for boys” rule growing up 🥲 so I *watched* my brother play video games but that was it lol

The little gal sleeping in her bassinet, better half getting some well-deserved undisturbed sleep, dog snoring away at my feet, ya boy watching a surprisingly competitive Sixers/Celtics game. This is truly the apex of my adulthood.

It's crazy to go from being a gifted kid to realizing in adulthood that there's no way to be special, because too many people exist for it to matter or endure in any meaningful way.

I can understand why reality-cucks like Plato want to retreat into a fantasy world instead.

Philosopher King my ass.

A man pardoned by Donald Trump for his role in January 6th - he assaulted Capitol Police officers with bear spray & a metal whip - has avoided prison for child sex crimes because of the president’s sweeping pardon, despite pleading guilty to soliciting what he believed was a 15-year-old girl for sex

I am reasonably certain that if I had come to adulthood in a world where smoking had remained normal, I'd be 50 pounds lighter, substantially more successful, and dead.
the single most annoying thing about cigarettes, which are terrible and will kill you, is how fucking cool people can make them look

I mean come on

All close friendships are marked with competition. Our earliest tests are against our siblings and playmates, and some of that rivalry endures amongst friends into adulthood. Like dogs play fighting, you learn not to bite hard.

Growing up, I wrestled with the same challenges—self-confidence, resilience, and effective communication—skills that were never addressed in my own education. Even decades into adulthood, I found myself working through these gaps. #Emberhart #Parenting #Reflection www.emberhart.com/origin-story...
