I'm really thinking about experimenting with a adblocking DNS service on the Sony Bravia (Google TV) at home. I know the settings might be tough to find. OTT apps have started showing ads in the middle of some of their programs and its becoming a menace. Why did I pay you an yearly premium buddy?

THIS. I am absolutely floored by the number of people in this modern age of ad-soaked internet hell who seemingly aren't even aware of uBlock Origin or the genuine importance of adblocking in general.

I just figured this out. Google throttles video quality if they detect an adblocker is being used. So videos I watch on Brave have problems buffering even at 720, but the same video has no problem going 1440 on Zen (with no adblocking)
Is it just me, or is YouTube's bandwidth in the shitter? I've noticed everything I watch plays at 480p even though my internet speed is well over 50 Mbps

The adblocking is also nice, but I really didn't go through many sites that had that sort of thing. Kind of a catch 22 over time. With this and Ublock, though, browsing is starting to feel like it used to.

twitch is so fucking desperate to show me ads it's pathetic, I keep putting up multiple layers of adblocking and they keep bitching about it, I sometimes see "get turbo premium" notifs flicker for a fraction of a second before a blocker gets it

I've used AdAway on my rooted phone for years. I can confirm its effectiveness. It has a non-root mode now that uses Android's VPN proxy, but since you can't use another VPN with it, I'd recommend using a VPN that has built-in adblocking instead. That way, you also get protection from ISP spying.

I watch YT in a private browser with some adblocking plugins. I *occasionally* see an ad in the beginning of a video but haven't had a video interrupted by an ad in years.
And using the private window keeps it from tracking me long enough to decide which flavor of fascist slop to douse me with.

I'm not at home rn and I'm using tailscale to access my pihole in my house so I've adblocking working on my phone. Super chuffed with myself, and I can back up all the photos I take while I'm here to my server back home too 😁

I admittedly rarely see the ads because I have a premium account to manage the streaming music royalty bs but yes. There are also apps you can put on the streaming devices (roku, etc) for adblocking

I want to say some adblock lists like EasyList or the built in uBlock Origin lists include some anti-adblocking measures but you probably aren't surprised to know it's an arms race.

Got mullvad to use for work, cheap with adblocking dns and good speeds, hard to complain really for five bucks it ~just works~
