#Accelerometer
I wonder how the thing figures out which way is up for the display. It's obvious how it figures out the entire device's orientation, but there isn't an additional accelerometer on the rotor. Maybe there are some eccentricities to the rotor that can be detected?

Smart glasses with a GPS, accelerometer and maybe a LIDAR sensor if AR is a thing they do, that I could stomach, but the cameras feel like a privacy nightmare and easy to abuse.

“… from the 5-second acceleration waveform observed by the s-net accelerometer.”

You might need a translation for your translation 🤣

This is really cool. Translation (edited for length) of the intro post from X:
"In this EQ, the emergency EQ warning was issued before shaking hit land. (Real-time seismic intensity is calculated every 0.2 seconds from the 5-second acceleration waveform observed by the S-net accelerometer.)"
The underwater seismometer network is so great, as evidenced from yesterday's EQ off-Tohoku.

This is my favourite ultra-low current accelerometer.

It's Bosch Sensortec BMA400. For continuous measurement, it draws as little as ~14.5 µA in the highest-performance mode. Typical use cases are much lower.

- step counter
- activity recognition
- orientation detection
- tap/double tap
- IRQs

I genuinely can never do it on switch. 3DS, no problem, the accelerometer works. in scarlet/violet and ZA though? Transfer one in or catch one lmfao

Aside from that, there's a flash chip (looks like 16MB), an accelerometer, and for some weird reason some sort of wireless chip? It's a Panchip PAN1026 (not to be confused with the Panasonic module of the same part number).

Noticed today that #macos has the "Vehicle Motion Cues" feature, where it displays moving dots to help reduce motion sickness. And it works! So my #macbook has an accelerometer I didn't know about. Wonder if it's used for anything else 🤔

With accelerometers, it's not just about the data. Dr Koster emphasizes the importance of participant comfort and device durability in obtaining reliable results.

Maybe it’s like, accelerometer data in the watch mixed with increased heart rate

Not very smart. It could have had an accelerometer based trigger or one based on loosing the fibre optic feed.

Ahhh, I see... So you're recommending an measuring an accelerometer measurement instead of a force sensor. I suppose if I protect my smart carts we could just swing them around instead...

Measuring the force on an object in UCM is either the holy grail or white whale of intro physics labs. I think it is unnecessary. Students already know F=ma, why not just measure data to discover the a = v^2/r = w^2r relationship. An accelerometer on a lazy Susan can do this very easily.

For fun I took accelerometer readings from my flights taxi and takeoff (1st) and approach and landing (2nd) last night on my way back home on my phone

The winds last night in portland were understandably very rough

you can play with joycons and put all the accelerometer functions on the joycons identical accelerometer. Gyro can be used to point and a button can be assigned to centering. Game is also best enjoyed with waggle set to buttons.
