This "Just in Time for Christmas" Hallmark movie apparently features a NTT community college professor in her first year being offered an associate professor position at Yale because the Dean was "browsing dissertations and thought hers had bestseller potential." #acasky

part of why i find the idea that certain tech is inevitable (LMS, AI, etc) to be silly is we're not far removed from the before times. we have it in recent and living memory how we function without these things. i graduated from college in 2013. we had reading packets and printed our assignments

I have so much grading to do, and Canvas is down because of the AWS outage.

Object lesson #1940273 that maybe forcing us all to use crappy LMS tools that are beholden to tech infrastructures controlled by Bezos et al wasn't the best idea. #acasky

It’d probably be better for me to get back from the field more than a week before the paper is due 😅 #acasky

Lovely interview with our new OLH colleague Dr Maddie Sinclair who reflects on the importance of research being publicly available. "As a researcher, I became aware very early on of the structural inequalities in publishing systems, and I didn’t want to perpetuate them." #OpenAccess #AcaSky

This is a really exciting journal (re)launch at @openlibhums.org working with @the87press.bsky.social ! This poetry journal is doing such important work to address the massive under-representation of writers of colour and entrenched inequalities in literary publishing. #OpenAccess #AcaSky #poetry

The nerdy tattle-tale in me grew up to be an academic who loves calling out designers who plagiarize and culturally appropriate. The latest is #Adidas x #WillyChavarría. Here’s what I wrote (including learning resources!): deed.parsons.edu/2025/08/07/c...

This meeting was so important. The N8 group of northern UK libraries are providing much-needed leadership to the whole sector. They’re standing up to a bullying, extractive commercial oligopoly that threatens the integrity of our research. I was honoured to be part of this day! #OpenAccess #AcaSky

AcaSky, I need your help: I loved Marshall McLuhan's "Understanding Media", but I'm a woefully under-read dilettante.

I'd like to tell other technologists about this stuff, and how it relates to developing LLMs.

Does anyone have syllabi or reading lists so I can better educate myself first?

Indigenizing Art & Design Education Symposium
Please join us as we continue to develop strategies in centering Indigenous Art and Design pedagogy, and in direct partnership with Indigenous knowledge keepers Trinity Poolaw & Andy Jacobs, members of the Lenni Lenapexkweyok Collective.Part public program, and part visioning workshop, we see this symposium and future offshoots as challenging the status quo, improving our support structures for our Indigenous colleagues and student body, and strengthening our own research practices in service to a wider college-wide initiative around decolonizing design. With an Indigenous speaker/facilitator line-up, we are ensuring an important step towards decolonization: the centering of Indigenous people and their lived experiences.A closed visioning workshop with New School stakeholders will be held in the afternoon to develop actionable and comprehensive strategies for scaffolding, developing, and supporting Indigenous ways of knowing and being into our community.(NOTE: While we do not expect to keep time strictly, we offer this schedule for your guidance.
