Absolum for example was one of the Game Award nominees. But you can source its development as a co-development between the publisher Dotemu and developer Guard Crush Games. So it's really only indie in vibes, I guess?

I don't know about you, but between Absolum and Forestrike (please buy Forestrike it's 10 bucks and the demo let's you play until the second boss and keep the save data) my beat em up roguelite itch has been pleasantly scratched this year

Got Absolum as someone posted about it earlier and I was charmed almost instantly. This is basically a 2D boomer brawler à la Golden Axe but with modern roquelite elements à la Hades. Very much up my alley 😍

Saw credits in Absolum. It's the kind of game where I complain a lot, but also keep doing new runs. Could brag that I defeated final boss on first try, but that's just because infinite throwing dagger build meant I didn't need to learn shit.

This and theie dev team's previous game, Streets Of Rage 4 are my two favourite modern beat 'em ups, both just feel so good to play and I'm slowly getting better at Absolum as I go along. It really feels like a modern take on GOlden Axe and the two Dungeons & Dragons beat 'em ups.

i am still a little curious to try absolum if only cuz i can't imagine there isn't a little bit of the sor4 sauce in there. but it is a little sad when i watch gameplay of it and it makes so many "this is intuitive to the average person" choices. like, it's got a block buttooooooon.....
