I keep an individually packaged mask in my purse. On Wednesday, someone at a conference saw me wearing one and asked if I had an extra which I gladly handed over. And then restocked. It was really great to see some other KNs and Ns.

12 years later he remembered me at an HL7 WG meeting and again at the 2023 ASTP meeting. I’m just a tiny worker-bee in the policy world and it meant a lot to me that someone so competent, so effective acknowledged that previous connection. #ASTP2024 2/2

No keynote speech has ever gotten me to the edge of tears like Micky’s did.I’ve worked with him for a decade +.He was on one of my consensus committees at my first job in DC and was so well informed and such a great communicator that he motivated the rest of the committee to excellence #ASTP2024 1/2

VA is exposing their employees to AI tools and letting them know the benefits and pitfalls of the tools. Sharing prompts for different tasks. AI team has limited bandwidth and is using fellowships to find more members. #ASTP2024

ACF trying to emphasize use of the tools as a tool for human decisions. People have to own the decision that an AI makes and justify it. Hallucinations look real. You have to be discerning. #ASTP2024

PH STLTs are working with CDC to understand how AI can be used through virtual meetings and to show off how it's being used in the jurisdictions. This allows learnings and apps to be shared across STLTs. Emphasize that AI helps to do the job and frees them to do the work that matters. #ASTP2024

The VA community is adding AI Scribes to reduce burden and improve work/life balance. Held a techsprint to find better solutions for AI scribes with 150 participants and review the solutions for impact and safety. #ASTP2024

CMS is risk averse because of the number of payers and beneficiaries to not increase work while reducing others. Creating good cross-agency initiatives to share knowledge as well as trying to bring in the AI experts/scientists. #ASTP2024

CDC has submitted 58 use cases to ASTP and there is a lot of potential. Mission focused usage to detect outbreaks using geospacial techniques. Data cleanliness is still a challenge. Also want to support front line of PH workforce #ASTP2024

VA is primed to use potential of AI. Currently doing risk prediction for suicide prevention and addictions. Adding analysis of Imaging and for clinical spaces. #ASTP2024

Health IT heavy weights talking about how messy healthcare data seems to directly highlight some big public health challenges. If 90% of your time is spent cleaning the data in a low resource environment, that is an even bigger problem, especially across many healthcare data sources. #ASTP2024

90% of work is to understand a health care database is cleaning the data set so that the analytics gives useful conclusions. Training AI is especially important to have clean(er) data. #ASTP2024
