A government shutdown causing flights to be stopped, I feel bad for APUSH classes cause my god the amount of DBQs over this? 😭I’d cry

Oh dang, I'm giving a test on Monday in APUSH, which means I get to set the passwords. I had them as Buffalo, Lockport, and Syracuse because we're doing Period 4 (1800-1848), but now I think I have to make them Fitzgerald, Anderson, and Lightfoot, right?

So this seems like a good time to share the NukeMap website.

You can drop a nuclear bomb on any map location, select the size of any known tested weapon, and see the various damage radii and fallout patterns. 😬

It's a regular feature when we cover the Cold War in APUSH. #HATM
NUKEMAP by Alex Wellerstein
NUKEMAP is a website for visualizing the effects of nuclear detonations.

this isn't relevant to anything at all, but when i was in apush, i distinctly remember coming across henry clay's name *again* in a chapter section and thinking, "this bitch isn't dead yet?"
when you start thinking of pelosi's historical peers you're thinking of people like henry clay

This is your friendly APUSH teacher, noting that it was a running theme that at least once a year, a student would refer to the Supreme Court decision of Eugene v. Debs in an essay on the actual APUSH exam.

It was like clockwork.

watching national treasure, benjamin gates would have run an APUSH class like the mf navy

I'm gonna disagree with Google AI on this one.

Johnny Appleseed is taught ages 4 to 8 and I'm thinking Eugene Debs can be started then too.

Teachers:

#socialstudies #historyteacher #sschat #civics #apgov #apush ---> Here's your primary source lesson for #MediaLiteracyWeek✨

Ask students: How important is history in current events? Why does historical context matter in news stories?
President Donald Trump has repeatedly signaled he is open to invoking the Insurrection Act, a law from 1807 that allows the president to deploy the military in the United States. https://to.pbs.org/3JyaV3N
What is the Insurrection Act? Here's what Trump has said about using it
Experts told PBS News that worries about the Insurrection Act arise from legal uncertainty about how it can be applied.

G saw Hamilton with her APUSH class last night, and I truly hope actual Jefferson was rolling in his grave when she described musical Jefferson to me as "kind of fruity."

An APUSH DBQ that asks students to analyze the US’s changing perception of monarchy, and the documents are the Declaration of Independence, that one political cartoon of Andrew Jackson standing on the constitution, an excerpt from Thoreau’s “Civil Disobedience”, and the trump shit plane video

Had fun arguing with APUSH students yesterday: If Hamilton was alive today, he would be on the side of Jeff Bezos. I stated the cuddly Lin-Manuel Miranda version has warped their sense of who he really was.

I have an APUSH student who was born in Lebanon and is a native speaker of both French and Arabic. Her accent is delightful.
October 9, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Yep, Freshman, class of 2029. Which means next year he'll be the same age as my APUSH class and it's giving me _feelings_

Then it was Harriet Tubman. Maybe Henry Box Brown. The Civil War. Abe Lincoln. Freedom. I took APUSH and we barely even touched on reconstruction, the civil rights movement, it was just all March On Washington and voila utopia.

From the "[deep sigh] Better now than later" files of Mr. Barker's Class:
[APUSH students are working on a periodization sorting activity where they are taking terms from Period 2 (1607-1754) and sorting them into the appropriate colonial region.]
