TBH I can't really adhere to any specific system of "ranges should/nt in/exclude the bounds" because I use APL, J, Julia and C frequently. APL and Julia are 1-indexed so they don't include the upper bound, J and C are 0-indexed. (technically Dyalog APL can be 0-indexed but I don't like doing that)

My kid's kindergarten teacher taught to spell based on sound. If you had the right sounds, she considered it right. Like "apl" was correct when you meant to write "apple" because it sounded right.
He spelled pretty badly for a while, but it helped him learn to read & write & now he's good at it
