It’s a waiting game after a long night of booked then abruptly cancelled presidential plenaries; abject fury from the Global South (AOSIS said the text shows ‘contempt for our vulnerable people’), and some bold civil society action. We’re still here, still fighting.

a thinly veiled rebuke of comments by COP president Sultan Al-Jaber, who claimed yesterday
that there is "no science" to indicate that a fossil fuel phase-out is needed to keep 1.5C alive.
The AOSIS chair, from Samoa, stated bluntly and concisely: "The IPCC report is clear. We
need to phase out fossil fuels." For her part, the AOSIS fossil fuels lead negotiator, who hails
from the Marshall Islands, declared: "A fossil fuel phase-out is at the heart of this COP," adding
that "We cannot afford to pretend that there are other pathways to achieve 1.5 when so many
lives are at stake," perhaps referring to contentious proposals by the fossil fuel industry to lean
heavily on carbon capture and storage. "There are pieces to the puzzle, and we [welcome] the
commitment to scale up renewables... but you can't have an acceleration and scale-up of
