#AI-enabled
The absolute collapse of their stupid AI ruse — hopefully followed by a massive wave of tech regulation and imprisoning the politicians who enabled this — cannot come soon enough.

I love the idea that this is how they achieve the surveillance holy grail: AI reading your texts with your sexts. Instead of, you know, an internet connected GPS enabled device you take everywhere.

Not only that, but so much AI tech extracts the metadata and open info created/enabled *by* library and data workers. The labor of our field is being consumed and then resold to us in the hopes that we’ll decide our own jobs are obsolete @404media.co
Librarians told 404 Media they're being inundated with new pitches for AI library tech and catalogs are being flooded with AI slop books.

But more broadly, AI maximalism across society is supercharging the ideological war on libraries, schools, government workers, and academics.
AI Is Supercharging the War on Libraries, Education, and Human Knowledge
"Fascism and AI, whether or not they have the same goals, they sure are working to accelerate one another."

This is huge news in @cameronwilson.bsky.social's @thesizzle.com.au- Microsoft is being forced by the Aus regulator refund all the ultra-dodgy AI plan pushing it was doing for Office 365

Wild that other regions aren't also using regulatory power to punish Microsoft

"the analysis revealed a significant increase in data transfer (up to 86%) when autoplayed previews were enabled and motivates the need for an alternative solution."

Videoiden autoplay nostaa dataliikenteen määrää n. 86%. Ja sit ne on vielä jotakin AI-generoitua paskaa joka vaan kuluttaa energiaa.

I think AI superintelligence xrisk is a major issue we need to coordinate against. I think we have serious threats from AI enabled totalitarianism, and find slop annoying. Yet I am delighted by many AI products and find them genuinely helpful.

FYI gmail users: your mails are now ai fodder. How to switch it off is in the original post on IG. Also, if you have more than one gmail account, you have to do this on each. As a bonus, switching it off finally removed the stupid tabs it sorts the posts into.

User-hostile software has been on an extreme rise because consumer protection was gutted. My own TV no longer prompts me to accept TOS for their privacy invasive AI feature. It's just enabled now. All because companies have been completely let loose like rabid dogs on the consumer.

You are correct if we use AI-enabled editors powered by non-local AI-engines. The key is to use the content with local models/engines (think closed source) or with fully open/public models/engines (think LGPL).

I think someone who is subscribed to our newsletter enabled some AI thing. I wonder how many of these I'll get 🫠

As it turns out, that *was* Duck Duck Go. Evidently, Duck Duck Go's default, out-of-the-box settings have AI and ads enabled, though you can disable both. Nonetheless, I feel a certain way about nearly clicking on Walmart instead of MW's website just now. Tf am I seeing Walmart at all?

Recently YouTube told me that AI auto dubbing would be available on my channel soon. I made sure it was off. Today they are showing me this message… but the setting is still off 🆒

(I assume this is a poorly written notice meant to inform me that AI dubbing is now *available* but. Dude. Come on)

We clarify when liability and insurance can actually incentivize AI safety—mainly when losses are common and observable (like self-driving cars or AI-enabled medical devices).
