Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.

If this art was AI generated (which I suspect is based on some tells/lack of credit) than I think the headline just answered it's own statement.
Sell out the illustrators, sell out everyone else.
Teen Vogue's Closure and the Quiet Defunding of Worker Consciousness
Teen Vogue’s shutdown marks more than a media loss. This is a warning about how profit-driven consolidation quietly dismantles worker awareness and voice.

Hold on, are they only using genAI for VO, or is that just the only thing they publicly admitted? Because the Steam disclosure doesn't even mention VO, it says that they used "AI-based tools to assist with content creation". Which could mean textures, text, whatever. It's suspiciously broad.

Based on the 3,300 hits from China this week there’s gonna be an AI with some pretty interesting insight into Operation CRUSADER I suspect.

Based on anecdotal evidence alone I’m going to say the number one user of AI art is plumber vans.

Correct. I think we topped on Oct 29. The entire run up since the end of June has been based around 10 companies and AI speculation.

i just can't, man. i think using ai makes you into a lazy hack. i think using the big main ais makes you into a planet-wrecking, ethics- and license-ignoring moron. i think allowing ai based on "people will lie about not using it" makes you a coward and a liar. these are not difficult to understand.

US based, Trump-worshipping oligarchs attempting to manipulate Canadian politics and manufacture opposition to AI sovereignty is *exactly why Canada needs AI sovereignty*.

The AI apocalypse is sci-fi - but the AI-fueled oligarch apocalypse?

Already started (especially in the US).

Count us out.
🧵 Human actions and beliefs are hugely influenced by peer pressure, and not standing out from the crowd. C.f. everything from teen drug/alcohol use through cults and diffusion of responsibility for war crimes.

This will allow Meta (like X) to surround each user with a targeted, synthetic "crowd"…
This is an interesting hypothesis

Meta is very predatory with content creators, this could fit

It probably wouldn’t work with established creators but for beginner ones (who I think makes a large proportion of the contingent of creators), it may

We need innovative technical and societal solutions to mitigate AI risks. I believe liability insurance for AI developers could be an excellent market-based incentive to drive safety standards and accountability, and is an option worth considering.

it's still a product being sold based on on performances they didn't pay the performers for, which I'm not okay with regardless of the release date. i played the demo designed to get me to buy the game, heard the ai voices, verified it was voice work theft, and then ignored the game.

It’s fucking generative AI. I am a computer scientist. They are using LLMs for voice production based on existing data. The difference between this and deepfakes for voice is there isn’t one. It is a way to not pay voice actors in the longer term! Ahhhhhhh!

Something I've really noticed among institutional "responses" to generative technologies is that "DO NOT USE THIS TOOL, IT'S COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE" is fudamentally erased from any possibility of ever being an option

Often paired with fatalist stuff like "this isn't going away"

They’ve said “We use X tech” in like 3 different ways, so tbh, I just don’t trust them! Even if they literally chop actor’s words into phonemes like Apple originally did with Siri (I don’t think they do, based on results, I think there’s more happening) that *is* ultimately based on generative AI
