#AB3048
You are conflating SB362 (2023) and AB3048 (2024), and apparently misinforming several people in these comments and retweets along the way.

The CPPA is developing such a platform: cppa.ca.gov/regulations/

AB3048, the opt out preference signal law, was vetoed after mobile OS claimed they could not operationalize such signals on mobile. Several browsers/extensions can do what you describe: globalprivacycontrol.org/GPC_for_User...

AB3048 had nothing to do with data brokers. Newsom signed the California Delete Act in 2023 which did, in fact, give consumers the ability to request that all registered data brokers delete their personal information via a centralized, one-stop shop.

Mactaggart had some very choice words for industry anti-AB3048 "FUD" on Friday. You'll be able to read all about it in The Patchwork Dispatch!

Gavin Newsom vetoes AB3048 (browsers must be able to send data opt out signals, a well specified tech) saying “it's best if design Qs are first addressed by developers, rather than by regulators.”
Same bloke, same day signs in AB2273 which requires totally unproven age estimation technology.

News to me that adtech trades think anyone deserve “meaningful privacy protections.”

Again, worthwhile to see where California comes down on AB3048, which would greatly expand the Global Privacy Control.

California’s #AB3048 would require your web browser offer a simple opt-out signal like @globalprivctrl, and as with DNT, industry groups seem to be insisting people declare their privacy preferences over and over and over again.
