AAVs are crucial vectors for delivering biosensors into neurons! Using AAV delivery, we perform two-color imaging of calcium and potassium transients in neurons. These AAVs are now available from @braincase.bsky.social www.ebraincase.com/news/new-pro...

Very happy to share an expansion to the comparative gene editing toolkit: AAVs to reduce dopamine receptor levels that are functional in many rodent species. Fun collaboration with @malu-murugan.bsky.social, Elliott Albers and Frank Meye.
Comparative gene editing reduces dopamine receptor levels across rodent species
Translational challenges in neuroscience originate from species-specific differences that limit the generalizability of experimental findings. Comparative approaches can help distinguish conserved fro...

Another big deal: the Ducks are making Jackson LaCombe the highest-paid player in franchise history. An 8x$9M AAV extension for the talented young defenceman.

Ryan Getzlaf, Paul Kariya and Corey Perry had higher AAVs, but this is the most in total dollars.

I think they should just take this to 11 on the batshit crazy scale. Air Force generals must fly in. Marine generals must land in AAVs. Navy can sail up the Chesapeake in a 18 century ship of the line. Army generals will arrive at the Quantico triangle gate in caissons

If you use AAVs in your research, you'll want to check out the latest additions to Addgene's viral vector service! See them all in our latest blog post, including the first vector packaged in a new-to-Addgene serotype, AAV9-X1.1.

Zack Martin has a point imo. He's the 31st highest-paid lineman in the league. Seven guards have higher contract AAVs than him. You can't convince me there are seven guards better than him at what he does.

Like you can do this all day. You have to draw a line somewhere and it's always going to feel arbitrary. The Leafs need to stop acting like they've got nothing to offer a player besides above market AAVs.

3/9 The technique: Non-disease-causing adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) deliver genes to specific neurons. Scientists attach genetic 'enhancers' to gutted AAVs, fill with target genes. Viral shuttles bypass blood-brain barrier, activate only in target cells.

Approved/early gene therapies are very expensive, driven by small-scale and unoptimized production and small target populations to recoup R&D expenses. At safe doses and millions of patients, AAVs can be priced similar to one year of antibody drugs, but with long-term effects.

This work is now online in the latest issue of Neuron. At the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, the team has developed enhancer-AAVs to target diverse cortical interneuron subtypes

This has immediate utility as a research toolbox and longer-term value as an approach for gene therapies. This is part of the Allen Institute's larger effort to create enhancer AAVs toolboxes across several brain regions.

Important PSA / technical note for any using AAVs for experiments that rely on linked elements/barcodes (e.g. multiplexed reporters, MPRAs, certain single cell CRISPR screens).

In work led by @jblalanne.bsky.social - we saw AAVs unlink/swap barcodes when packaged as a pool - design aware!
Brief PSA for the functional genomics community: if you are profiling complex libraries with >1 internal components (e.g., enhancer+barcodes in MPRAs) delivered via AAVs, be aware that there might be substantial unlinking within your libraries if you packaged as a pool! doi.org/10.1101/2025...

I’m surprised how low the AAVs have been for all of the Bucks’ signings. Hopefully means something good’s coming?

Designed for rapid assembly at low cost, the Barracuda family of AAVs only requires ten or fewer tools to assemble, ensuring that both new and existing production lines can be rapidly spun up to produce AAVs at hyper-scale.

For sure. I'm kind of resigned to the notion he will (if he re-signs) end up somewhere between Matthews' and Nylander's AAVs. I just want 8 years, the Leafs are getting killed partially by having to re-up their stars faster than others (and for higher AAVs)
