PipeWire 1.6 has entered development for this open-source server for handling audio/video streams and hardware on Linux, promising major new features and enhancements. Highlights of PipeWire 1.6 include Bluetooth ASHA (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aid) support, MIDI 2.0 clip support to the tools, better support for **explicit sync** , a new timer-queue helper to schedule timeouts, a Dolby Surround and Dolby Pro Logic II example filter config, and support for Razer BlackShark v3. In addition, the loop now has support for locking with priority inversion, the control stream parser was rewritten to be safe against concurrent updates while parsing, the ALSA node setup was tweaked to provide low latency with the ALSA Firewire driver, and the link negotiation code was refactored and improved. Other changes to be expected in the upcoming PipeWire 1.6 release include improved support for Logitech Z407 PC speakers, support for disabling the pro-audio profile, telephony improvements, packet loss correction with spandsp for some Bluetooth codecs, and colorimetry support. On top of that, PipeWire 1.6 introduces a new help and pipewire-pulse:list-modules core message, extra configuration for RTP streams, support for reading channel positions from HDMI ELD, an offline AEC benchmark, as well as support for the filter-graph max plugin to have 8 input channels. Also, PipeWire 1.6 promises improved DSD playback with pw-cat, support for metadata features, a new ONNX filter, a new FFmpeg avfilter plugin, audio channel position and Latency and ProcessLatency support to filter-graph, configurable ALSA DLL bandwidth, and support for H.265 as a video format. However, please note that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
