This sounded bullshit to me, and it's not, but it's also not something unique to U-2s - any subsonic aircraft flying at high-altitude will have an altitude where stall speed meets the critical mach number. I think it just comes up for U-2s because they tend to fly so close to that point.

A couple nights ago, I went out to try my hand at a Timelapse of the #aurora. It was only my second attempt, so clearly I am still learning. Shot with my D500 and a 24-70. Exposure was roughly 2s and the internal was around 4s.
