#20ConcertsFor20Years
In a fairytale ending to our #20ConcertsFor20Years story, the 20th and final show fell precisely on the big day, allowing the two of us to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in style: with a jubilant, life-affirming sing-along at Wembley Stadium featuring Oasis and 81,000 of our closest friends.

The penultimate performance in our #20ConcertsFor20Years series saw us travel directly from our holiday in Reims to the village of Olmen, Belgium.

In a late-Saturday night set, we saw Supergrass play their seminal debut ‘I Should Coco’ in full, to celebrate its 30th anniversary. One more gig to go!

With two weeks until the big day, gig 18 in our #20ConcertsFor20Years adventure took us on the rails to one of our favourite cities outside the Netherlands.

At the Gent Jazz Festival we were fortunate enough to catch two incredibly talented women: Anna Calvi followed by the sensational St. Vincent.

"We took the town to town last night / We kissed like we invented it / And now I know what every step is for / To lead me to your door."

Show number 17 in our #20ConcertsFor20Years series took us to the Palais Soestdijk in Baarn to spend a magical evening under the stars with the magnificent Elbow.

Firmly entering its nostalgia phase, the 16th chapter of #20ConcertsFor20Years took us to Paris to see Weezer.

Rocking out to a band this pair of then-16-year-olds bonded over decades ago, joined by our now-16- and 18-year-old children.

A perfectly circular moment that left us grinning ear-to-ear.

Against our better judgement, we went straight from Gdańsk to Hilvarenbeek for gig 15 in our #20ConcertsFor20Years series.

But our energy levels were boosted by a brilliant lineup at Best Kept Secret Festival, including jasmine.4.t, The Pill, Kae Tempest, Lucy Dacus, The Streets and Kneecap. #BKS25

Do you realize
That everyone you know someday will die?
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

We were a bit uncertain about seeing a band named "Divorce" in the build-up to our 20th wedding anniversary.

But their debut album Drive to Goldenhammer is one of our favourites of 2025, and tonight's show at Bitterzoet in Amsterdam was an emotional 13th stage on the drive to #20ConcertsFor20Years.

Shows number one to eleven in our #20ConcertsFor20Years series were accessed by public transportation, but tonight’s 12th edition marked a first:

A (20 kilometre round trip) cycle ride from our home in Delft to Paard in Den Haag, to catch Amersfoort-based infectious indie pop outfit Future Husband.

The best part of doing #20ConcertsFor20Years has been pushing out of our comfort zone to see musicians we wouldn’t otherwise make an effort to catch live.

Fat Dog are one such act, for whom we made the short train trek to Rotterdam, and were rewarded with an interactive experience unlike any other.

As some of you may (or may not) recall, last September the two of us set ourselves the ambitious goal of attending #20ConcertsFor20Years in the twelve months preceding our upcoming 20th wedding anniversary. We’re pleased to report we’ve officially reached the halfway mark. A thread summary so far...

The ninth show in our #20ConcertsFor20Years quest—and our third in a week—took us across the IJ to spend a sweaty Saturday night in Amsterdam North.

Madrid four-piece Hinds were the headline act; delivering a high-energy set that left everyone in the Tolhuistuin singing, bouncing, and wanting more.

“Old hearts yearning / Whatever we're going through / Oh, darling / I'm always with you / My one and only / For the days ahead.”

Gig number eight in our #20ConcertsFor20Years series took us all the way to Amsterdam on a school night to spend some quality time with the one and only Michael Kiwanuka.

We last saw The Libertines—minus their enigmatic co-frontman Peter Doherty—in Toronto in the summer of 2003; their first-ever gig on Canadian soil.

Which made tonight’s absolutely electric Amsterdam reunion all the more special, and a fitting seventh step in our march towards #20ConcertsFor20Years.

From singing and dancing to Vampire Weekend in an East Vancouver apartment with our then two-year-old daughter, to doing it in a South Amsterdam concert hall sixteen years later.

Tonight’s gig marked number six in our #20ConcertsFor20Years series, as well as a belated 18th birthday present for Leo.
