Today's mood regarding people who want to act like hardware/iot pentesting should be treated as just an expansion of the standard network penetration skillsets rather than having an overlapping but largely independent vocabulary of threat and attack associated with it.

I feel like the IoT stuff was a harbinger. Very soft demand but very high industry enthusiasm that flooded us with botnets and broke garbage when services went down.

The poignancy of the women scientists speaking as experts on "In Our Time" produced by @simontillotson.bsky.social, explaining the level of exclusion - literally could not lunch/dine with the men scientists, makes this one of the best of a superb library of IOT episodes. bsky.app/profile/esga...
Recommend the always brilliant #BBC Radio 4 "In Our Time" produced by @simontillotson.bsky.social w iconic Melvyn Bragg.

Passed too soon, of cancer in 1958 at age 37.

Better to never think DNA discovery without acknowledging her work.

IOT in appliances is not a great trend as well. There is no compelling reason for a toaster to be connected to the internet.

I've been talking about building long-lived IoT devices for years. And why I hate to see functional devices lose their functionality when a company fails or walks away. This is very much on people's minds with the possible death of iRobot.

It's called telematics/OTA, and panic, it's everywhere (vehicles, Windows, IoT). The real problem: manufacturers won't give you transparency or control over YOUR data.

Some in US just faced lawsuits for selling driver data to insurers without informed consent.
