Ingredient list for Santa's Whiskers cookies 1 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons milk 1 teaspoon vanilla or rum flavoring 2½ cups all-purpose flour ¾ cup finely chopped red or green candied cherries ½ cup finely chopped pecans ¾ cup flaked coconut Directions to make Santa's Whiskers cookies In mixing bowl cream together butter or margarine and sugar; blend in milk and vanilla or rum flavoring. Stir in flour, chopped candied cherries, and chopped pecans. Form dough into two 8-inch rolls. Roll in flaked coconut to coat outside. Wrap in waxed paper or clear plastic wrap; chill thoroughly. Cut into ¼-inch slices. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375° till edges are golden, about 12 minutes. Makes about 60.

In 2021, I made thumbprint cookies for the first time. I get more comfortable with them every time I make them, but I wouldn't recommend them for first-time bakers or people looking for something quick and easy. Lots can go wrong!

Scoop cookie dough into 1 Tablespoon-sized balls and roll very well (so that the dough is [footer 12/21/2021, 10:01 AM] round and there are no cracks/seams in the cookie dough -- this will help keep your thumbprints from cracking). Roll in granulated sugar (if using) and place on a wax-paper covered plate or small cookie sheet. Use your thumb or the rounded back of a teaspoon to gently press an indent in the center of the cookie dough. Repeat until all of the dough has been used. ½ cup sugar Transfer cookie dough to freezer and chill for 30 minutes. Once dough is done chilling, preheat oven to 375F (190C) and place your jam in a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat briefly (about 5-10 seconds) or until jam is not hot but is no longer firm and is easy to stir. ⅓ cup jam or preserves Spoon jam into each thumbprint, filling each indent to the brim. Once oven is preheated, place cookies at least 2" apart on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet and bake on 375F (190C) for 11 minutes or until edges are just beginning to turn golden brown. Today I made cookies that nobody asked for and probably nobody wanted for the ridiculous reason that I didnt feel like opening the sour cream to make the cookies I planned on making.

Normally I would have at least one good batch of each Christmas cookie recipe done by now, but my test batches have been garbage this year. The ube crinkles are finally done - didn't come out great, but I'm not remaking them again! And caramel latte shortbreads are done! #cookieparty
