Dashed out to Newbiggin to catch up with a Bean Goose found earlier in the day. My first Tundra since 2011 there (I’ve missed a few) the wait for Taiga goes on… #nland2025 #lowcarbonbirding

That's unusual. A lone Whooper Swan outside the kitchen window. The vast majority of #LocalPatch records are fly overs. #Northumberland #Lowcarbonbirding

Managed a ride up to Rixton Moss today where at least 25 Corn Buntings were seen! Most I've seen in Cheshire for years and a brilliant addition to the bike yearlist! A few of them were singing too. #UKBirding #LowCarbonBirding

Lee-on-the Solent: At least 115 Great Crested Grebes offshore (presumably more off Hill Head & Browndown) #LowCarbonBirding

Days like today it's great to squeeze in or combine birding while mainly doing other stuff 🙂 Hopefully more time next weekend!

My longest ride of the year so far up to Speke Hall. Managed to see the Grackle (whatever list it ends up on, it's on my bike list!). Also managed to add Rock Pipit, Yellow-legged Gull and Peregrine, taking my green list to 93. #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding

#77 Slavonian Grebe - sadly the camera focus didn't work well in this unrelenting dark and gloom
#78 Mediterranean Gull, jammed in on a flyover; no pics of course!

More #LowCarbonBirding exploration of the 10km circle was unsuccessful - no joy with Purple Sandpipers at Southsea, though did see 6 Mediterranean Gulls & Shag. Ferry + buses made it feel like an adventure & beat the huge queues along M275! #HantsBirds

Hard to believe this was written in 2008.

Lots of fine words have been said since then, but there’s been little change.

From the excellent book on vagrancy (2021). 5-10 years ago we had a moment of clarity - but it didn’t stick.

It discusses birding’s carbon emissions & the need to reduce them. It sees a positive future - one that has since faded.

We just aren’t ready to change🤷‍♂️🙄

Rec. village counts of Tundra Beans (31) & Caspians (20+, mainly 2 & 3 cy) in Jan. Hugely enjoyed long hrs picking them both out - never dull.😁

Our 3rd (!) BWK at close range for long periods in a lovely setting on my own is an all-time highlight. Sublime.

Had a ride up to Woolston Eyes today adding some good birds to my green birding yearlist. Grey Partridge, RN Parakeet & Marsh Harrier the best of these. Also managed Tree Sparrows, Yellowhammers, 4+ Bullfinches & an Oystercatcher. #LowCarbonBirding #UKBirding

Treated myself to a couple of hours of future-friendly #lowcarbonbirding with the BWK. My best views of any of the three TG42 records so far.

Also 33 Cranes and Barn Owl

#FootIt is a great example of keeping it #local, exploring what we have close to home and keeping our carbon footprints low.

As a birder & runner, I’m all for #LowCarbonBirding and promoting the @thegreenrunners.bsky.social #HowWeMove pillar.

It was a pleasing challenge to refind the 1w Russian White-fronted Goose amongst the Greylags, especially without a scope.
The over-wintering Scaup & Caspian Gull continue to get around the site, a joy to spot.
