Alistair always brought scouts to get information on the land as they traveled. Enough soldiers for darkspawn or bandits, of course. At least one mage for healing and alchemy, but never more than two, since Kinloch Hold was still trying to put all the pieces back together after the Blight. And the rest: squires, cooks, surgeons, blacksmiths, the occasional merchant. He would have preferred a smaller group, but royalty could not afford to be careless, so there were always several swords to guard him whenever he traveled more than a few days ride from Denerim.

Over the next few years, Alistair found a routine he enjoyed. He had always thrived with a schedule. Life in the Bournshire monastery was simple: prayer, study, and practice with sword and shield. As a king, he followed a similar path. He sparred with knights and guardsmen at dawn and studied law or history with his breakfast. If there were meetings with advisors, nobles, or honored guests, then Alistair attended them at Anora's side and spoke of whatever they had planned together. Otherwise, he continued his studies throughout the day, either in the palace library or Arl Eamon's estate, then did his usual sword drills before supper. If Anora was in the mood for company, Alistair joined her with wine while she worked, then retired to his own quarters for the evening.
