I have a book on my desk, which I've been meaning to finish for several months now. Please, help me ease my guilt for books left unread by participating in the contest I quoted here!

(The book on my desk is about local legends and fairytales. A fascinating topic. I'm just too unfocused lately.)

Come to think of it, I haven't shared most of the art I've gotten of my hyena here on bluesky yet. I'll post all the ones I can find posted online somewhere in this threat! First, a painting made by me, so you know who I'm talking about. (:

I decided to try out how much I can push my style towards cuteness. Pretty happy with how this turned out!

Another portrait of Sieglinde.

@hervicksy.art asked me to paint another portrait of Sieglinde from a different angle. I think it turned out really well! :D

I asked myself how comfortably warm I could make a painting look, without making it feel uncomfortably hot. If you've ever tried something similar, share it with a quote or whatever works! I want to see what you all got. c:

I wanted to try out doing one of those style adaptations in a while!

One more painting with the 2010s aesthetic. This time a bit more fashion focused than general design. It was a colorful time for sure!

The picture is 120 by 180 pixels, but I guess bluesky wants to force it to fit the whole width, even if it not made to be. xP
Here's one that's zoomed in without blur instead.

I've been looking at old art and saw some 2010s deviantArt style sparkle dogs and wanted to indulge in the aesthetic for a bit! So this is my quadruped hyena OC that's definitely not a fursona, as we all reassured each others back in the day. (x

I did a very small painting to get back into the creative routine!

I actually think I recognize pretty much everyone on this one! I tried putting all the handles in the alt text. Hopefully that worked.

A fleeting moment in the wintery forest.

A unique landscape scenery commission for @justthegs.bsky.social ! It's a whitetail buck in a winter forest to be used as the background of a label with text on top. I really enjoyed working on a subtle piece like this without any flashy contrast! :D

Here's a rough recording of how I do it. It's no perfect gradient, but it's good enough to look smooth to most.

Gears are fun!

In the process of this, I learned about involute circles and making cogs with ideal profiles. I know a lot about gears now!

I started working on a 3D environment for character references and ended up spending a day making a very fancy turn table for the scene.

I really thought that I should focus on more prominent pats of the skull, but then I looked at the greater palatine canal and the sphenopalatine foramen and felt like I should add those two holes as well. There are no photos of them, so I relied on a dog CT to figure them out!
December 10, 2024 at 5:29 PM
After getting bogged down with some details, I told myself to focus on the more important parts and promptly got caught up modelling the Vomer. At least I'm learning a lot about anatomy in the meanwhile!
December 10, 2024 at 2:28 PM
The next part to stand out to me is the lack of sharp edges. I tried out working with crease edges, but for the organic shape, adding edge loops around the sharp edges wields better results.
December 10, 2024 at 10:32 AM
Time to get slowed down with a tough challenge though. The heary holes and spine base are a very complex structure with little conceptual meaning to them. I gotta break them down into shape groups and refine those. And then add the finer parts on top of those. Still a confusing shape.

The mandible as a whole has no definition, but the lack of the masseteric fossa and angular process distract from the shape. A few small changes improve it by a lot already. And I'm slowly getting myself into the mindset of not focusing too much on the accuracy for now. IT speeds things up a lot.
December 9, 2024 at 10:09 PM
Even with those lazy teeth, the skull as a whole looks a lot more accurate again already. Now I gotta look at that whole again and figure out what looks most wrong about it. And I think it's the shape of the orbit distracts me most.
December 9, 2024 at 9:43 PM
So with the rest of the teeth I made the choice to become increasingly lazy with them and clean them up later if necessary. For some reason, they remind me of the Spy Kids movie thumb people, compared to the other teeth I did before.
December 9, 2024 at 8:31 PM
Working on the teeth once again lead me to a pitfall in the modelling process. I way too early let myself get bogged down in trying to get the shape of the individual teeth right. But eventually I got myself back on track and just duplicated close approximations to get the over all look right.
