so fascinated by the specific calendar dates given for the start and end of the edo period. genuinely can't figure out what events they are using for that.

you can read it now, if you want to! i dont really discuss the moving parts of the larger scenario of the game, its mostly a close reading of the middle school locker room puzzle (i do spoil a bit of umineko episode 4-5 but youve read umineko)

thank you so much @strida.bsky.social , @reidmccarter.bsky.social, @youmeyou.bsky.social, @edwardsmithwriter.bsky.social for the chance to write this! I'm really grateful to contribute to this issue of Bullet Points, which as a site I have long admired and considered sort of a distant aspiration!

this definition by the OED is correct, here's the pixivdic entry. the streamer's definition of "isekai" is indistinguishable from fantasy, but not every fantasy is isekai obvs. you cant say lodoss war/dungeon meshi are isekai. thats /how/ people are misusing the term

yes those typos and errors are in the article. basically my contention is that "isekai" as a genre label refers to any work where there is a transference between a meta/prime world and a separate world, like here is word used on the wiki page for narnia

there's so much relying on social media posts from randos as sources but also the lack of editorial oversight to understand that randos on the internet can be wrong, they can lie, and they might not know more than established authorities (who can be wrong too of course) is baffling to me.

a while back ign published a piece on "isekai" being added to the oed, where the author who i wont name to not pick fights decided a streamer was more of an authority on what "isekai" means than the oxford english dictionary and japanese linguists

I'll make sure to just say konnichiwa instead of embarrassing myself with gokigenyou to the receptionist this time.
