Zohran has the X factor to pull out young, progressive, and low-propensity voters, but without a generational talent like that, local elections revert to being dominated by the older, more affluent, homeowning high-propensity voters

Aaand that’s exactly what happened! Disappointing that he’s no on 6, I feel like that one might actually end up being the most impactful if passed. Why would government work at all in a democracy if people don’t vote?

Mamdani definitely has that X factor that can benefit from low-turnout off-cycle elections, but my bet would be that leftist candidates are much worse off in the long-run if 6 fails

The people who really do care about policy are political freaks: they care enough to show up to primaries, care about single issues, they write emails, etc. Those people are voting regardless. Who cares if they respond “strongly support” democrats vs “somewhat” on the next gallup survey?
