While this is different in the modern era, historically gay spaces were less segregated by race and class than straight spaces which feels important to understand where things come from getting muddied

White gay men use black culture but so does your favorite white enby barista because it’s a white American issue, but acknowledging that would mean owning complicity and not being able to deflect the idea that gay men experience homophobia

Ironically, the way white queer people deploy “this was stolen from black people” specifically at white gay men does feel like stealing a critique from black people without thinking deeply about it
