So a lot of us are trying to escape Twitter and check marks are kind of... Ick? Maybe do a shield or a butterfly like others suggested. And are we capable of verifying ourselves and then businesses get a different form of verification mark so we're not starbelly sneetching it here?

I don’t know enough about backend verification processes to have a credible opinion on the system as a whole but this is a brand nightmare.
