I believe the expressed disrespect (putting it mildly) toward our teachers is because most teachers are women. This is an opportunity for misogynists to attack women behind the claim of saving children. They really just want to control children and women.

I have reviewed them—that’s why I am making the point that oversimplifying a group is problematic.

We always need to consider intersectionality—which white women? Poor? Rural? Disabled? Young? Old? Which Black people? Men? Children? Educated? Gay? Etc., otherwise we’re ignoring people who deserve to be considered and that’s what leads to false assumptions and failed policies.

Whenever the people perceive the state to fail them or their loved ones and fellow citizens in basic services, then the government loses legitimacy. This is long understood by those who work in conflict resolution and peacebuilding, but we do not use their expertise.

What I haven’t heard acknowledged is the slow and not so slow violence perpetuated by health insurance companies and I haven’t heard the term structural violence—the term violence has been attached, by journalists, to the shooter.

It’s pretty toxic here, unfortunately. As if toxicity is going to help. 😕

Yes it does work—history and a whole body of work in sustainable #ConflictTransformation & #ConflictResolution offers empirical evidence, but this evidence is not discussed in the conflict focused media so it’s not in our awareness or instinct.
