the continued history of people falling for dummy strongmen makes me sad is all

(I hate it here)

Please, mao was an anti-intellectual, paranoid moron. He had no understanding of how economies work, expelled foreigners, and had an inability to admit fault. There's zero parallels.

and amazon, which I don't trust because it's lousy with temu, fake bullshit, is replacing its review search with ai bullshit. Bullshit on top of bullshit.

This is, no exaggeration, an extremely frustrating experience. This shit isn't cheap (the clothes I find, I mean), and I don't trust products on amazon to actually have the specifications they say they have.

similarly, looking for products online, product locators very often claim a store will have something when they don't. Or stores will default to online availability, when I'm looking for in-store availability. It's driving me insane.

my god, if I search -'term' or NOT 'term', 'term' should not be the first result. Google is worthless and only saved by how worthless other search engines are

my god I phrased that poorly. Woops

Book 2, also Dikötter: China After Mao. One of the wildest lines to keep in mind when seeing all this bullshit tiktok is about how 600 million live on 140 a month

Book 3: The Political Thought of Xi Jinping". Wasn't *bad*, but the concept of Xi's Leninism felt too much like one authors hobby theory

The good news is everything is about to get way stupider everywhere

oh and usajobs literally tells you if a position will be drug tested. They may as well say "here's the positions stoners can apply to"
January 9, 2025 at 7:18 PM
poorly worded, but you get my point. It's infuriating they still use polygraphs too. They may as well ask your astrology sign.

Looking at people who are deep into, say, hacking culture or learning complicated foreign languages, you usually don't learn those skill levels by living a totally bland, conventional life. Applying to some 3 letter agencies recently, it seems like their pot rules are biting them in the ass more
