(Longer term, of course, I would love to see some way the bike lane could be protected all the way down (e.g. ↓) until the larger Union Square redesign project, but I recognize that is out of the scope of this intersection renovation.)

I mean specifically within the project area—some of the width currently allocated for the bump-out on the west side could be moved to a barrier to prevent drivers using the bike lane as a right turn lane or short-term parking lane as they frequently do in other wider barrier gaps (e.g. Holland St.).
