This such an example of symbolic compliance. Like, what then? Is ICE just going to change their entire MO? Is Trump going to stop fueling and giving immunity to hate-based crime?

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

The second amendment was never something they believed in. Just a talking point to keep power and control and now they don’t want anyone else to have that. FUCK ICE. Deport ICE to prison cells NOW!

Thank you and love to all protesters and people reporting the truth!

One of the reasons I was on board with Mamdani from very early on was that he seemed to me, more than any other candidate, to be prepared to offer a roadmap for popular and institutional resistance to Trumpism on the municipal level.

It’s more just that I feel like linguists aren’t really heard or boosted that much. Even when I integrate linguistics w politics, zero engagement. So it’s a pretty strong deflation and disincentive bsky.app/profile/zjag...
The “there we go” is such a great re-framing of the responsibility back on Chris. Like “there we go. We are successfully communicating with each and with your audience again”
completely outside of politics, this is so charming

Is it happenstance that you posted “day after tomorrow next year” when “day after tomorrow” is next year?
