I was lucky enough to hear this wonderful author, @ogracebankole.bsky.social , speak about her debut novel, the Edge of Water @literaryarts.bsky.social. I felt very privileged to hear her talk about her story and her process.

Can’t wait to tuck in!

"My mentor said, 'You know, ‘novel’ means new, do it differently.' That’s what I love...how can I do it differently in a way that’s interesting, that’s fun, even when telling a difficult story."

“We’re the crickets now that the crickets are sleeping.”

Just finished Solito, a heart-wrenching memoir about Javier Zamora emigrating from El Salvador to the US when he was a young boy.

I highly recommend this book. We need stories like this, now more than ever.

This is one of my favorite neighborhood trees. She is an Oregon White Oak, pictured here in January 2025 and June 2024.

I hug her every time I pass her and whisper, “Thank you.”

Fact check carefully and thoughtfully. Critical thinking is an art you must hone every day.

I love how that even in mid-January, Portland still has flowers adorning the streets.

For me, they are little reminders of beauty, gratitude, growth, and that everything is temporary.
