Do you or a loved one have a disability? The rights to treatment at hospitals doctors offices and more are in danger. Texas versus Becerra is an active lawsuit seeking to get rid of section 504, part of a 1973 civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. Section 504 protects disabled people's right to enter and receive services and accommodations (example: ramps ASL interpreters Braille captions screen readers) anywhere that receive federal funding or grants. This includes public schools, doctors and hospitals that take Medicaid Medicare and many more basic services. 17 states are currently signed on to the lawsuit but if 504 is struck down it will have a national effect. The suits status is due to be updated 25 February 2025. The good news? There's still time to fight! We tragically lost him in the tragedy of the 1986 Challenger Space Shuttle. He was selected to become part of NASA group 8, the first class that included both women and minorities.
