Here is my @currentbiology.bsky.social dispatch on an excellent article by the @coudertlab.bsky.social. Re-visiting the shoot branching field (and learning many new things in the process!) brought back fond memories from my time at @slcuplants.bsky.social. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Plant development: Auxin diffusion controls moss shoot architecture
The phytohormone auxin is a conserved inhibitor of shoot branching in plants. While directional, carrier-mediated transport is necessary for the proce…

@pablidopsis.bsky.social and I write about the cell's decision between division and differentiation. 🌱 What factors promote one or the other in different cell types? 🤔 Are they really mutually exclusive?

How do #stemcells integrate information to coordinate fate decisions? Delighted to finally see our work showing how growth factors regulate the mechano-osmotic state of the #nucleus and #chromatin to control #pluripotency exit out! www.nature.com/articles/s41... see 🧵 👇
Mechano-osmotic signals control chromatin state and fate transitions in pluripotent stem cells - Nature Cell Biology
McCreery, Stubb et al. show that mechano-osmotic changes in the nucleus induce general transcriptional repression and prime chromatin for cell fate transitions by relieving repression of specific differentiation genes.

What's the difference between dominance and epistasis? Two physically distinct mutations in a gene interact such that the het is identical to one of the homozygotes. If I define the gene as a locus, we call this dominance. If I define each bp as a locus, we call this epistasis.
