Thanks for the response! I'm very much a layman, but my impression from my reading of Mornstein-Marx in Julius Caesar and the Roman People was he thought it was a bit of myth-making by Pollio and it didn't really have political importance, but this might be me just misreading the source.

Is there any truth to the statement that the Rubicon River held no real importance when Caesar crossed it? I first encountered this theory browsing r/AskHistorians and since then have wondered what the truth was ever since. Even went to read parts of Mornstein-Marx but its still unclear to me.
