ZH Architects is transforming this Manhattan Community Shelter into a bright, inclusive, and resilient space — complete with a vibrant new façade, natural light–filled lobby, and accessible design for all.

#PassiveHouse buildings can look similar to your regular, run of the mill buildings, however underneath their skin they distinguish themselves with a few key features

Commissioned to redesign two lobbies within the Bernstein Real Estate Campus, this project establishes a unified architectural language that connects the buildings as part of a cohesive campus identity. The owners placed a strong emphasis on #sustainability #accessibility and #healthymaterials

October means we are losing daylight & St. Johns Place is a perfect example to illustrate the concept of daylight design. An energy analysis allowed the calibration between the south facing windows and the solar shading required to achieve the #PassiveHouse standard.

Congrats to Marianne Hyde, AIA, CPHT of @zharchitects and Ed Yaker, Board Member of the Amalgamated Bronx Housing Corporation for receiving the NYS Buildings of Excellence Award! The project is a #PassiveHouse transformation of 1940 Workers’ Housing into 48 resilient, light filled apartments.
